CAROLYN + JAMES | PALM SPRINGS DESTINATION WEDDING | CASA CODY
The miles of white pillared windmills relentlessly spinning in the desert set the scene for the most perfect windblown ‘First Look’ on Carolyn and Jame’s wedding day! As I drove from Laguna Beach into Palm Springs that morning I hit several patches of rain storms, it was as if the closer I drove towards the mountains nearing the Desert the MORE rain I drove into. I said silent prayers that all this much needed Springtime rain would pour out that morning and the skies would clear up by the time Carolyn and Jame’s wedding began.
When I finally arrived in Palm Springs the clouds, although a bit ominous, looked as if they were going to hold. No rain, (Thank the Lord!!) but that definitely didn’t mean that it wasn’t going to be weather-less. I was totally overjoyed with the cloudy and overcast skies as Carolyn and James were doing their first look in the middle of the afternoon which doesn’t always lend itself to the BEST light–think weird shadows and squinting eyes!! Luck was on our side as we got an incredible backdrop of rolling clouds and the perfect amount of wind for that windblown hair look!! I love a bit of wind, it add a whimsical, mysterious and adventurous energy into my photographs. It draws the viewer deeper into an already intimate scene. Carolyn and Jame’s first look and Bridal portraits are some of my most favorite that I’ve photographed in a while.. I think it’s because we had SO much time. Carolyn and James gave me a FULL hour for photos before the bus arrived with their lively bridal party!
Carolyn and James and their entire wedding party and guests traveled all the way to Palm Springs from Canada–they looked to escape a weekend of their cold Canadian winter for a warm Palm Springs destination wedding!! This wedding was one of the funnest weddings I’ve photographed; the guests were SO warm and welcoming and everyone knew how to have a good time!! They celebrated Carolyn and James in style!!
Read Below to hear ALL that went into this Destination wedding:
FROM THE BRIDE:
1. Favorite moment from your wedding day: Our first look in the desert. It was an intimate moment where we got to just be with each other in the desert, hug, kiss and spend some quiet time. My second fav moment was walking down the isle hand-in-hand after we’d been pronounced husband and wife while our friends tossed rose petals. It was the happiest feeling!
4. Best and worst part about having a destination wedding? Best was everyone got to discover a new place that they all loved and want to revisit! Worst was not being able to meet with the vendors in person.
5. Advice for future brides planning a destination wedding in Palm Springs? Budget two re-con trips so you can narrow your choices and go back to confirm everything. We made one trip and changed our vendors and couldn’t swing going back a second time because we’d traveled extensively already and I’d just started a new job
8. Anything else you want to add??? Kendal Riley of Ostara Photography was absolutely amazing. I’m so glad we chose her. She were so professional, provided precise and gentle direction and were very easy to get along with. Everyone is very excited for her photos. My family and friends said you were always right where you needed to be and looked like she got amazing and unique shots. Thank you! James and I spent such a large amount of time with our photographer at your wedding -and we were SO glad that it was Kendal Riley of Ostara Photography!
